Everything you never knew you needed to know about each piece of stationery you may need for your big day.
Your wedding invitation is one of the first things your guest sees for the wedding. Your invitation can set the tone of your big day, and give your guests a clue as to whether your wedding is formal, semiformal, or casual. Wedding Invitations are typically mailed out six to eight weeks before the wedding date. Wedding invitations offer several types of printing styles. Printing options include engraved, thermography, letterpress, offset or flat printing and sometimes embossed or blind embossed. Invitations come in a variety of styles; single card, folds, wraps, layered, seal and send and more. Most of time, they are mailed in double envelopes. The inner envelope can be lined in a matching color, is not gummed, and fits into the outer envelope. The outer envelope is gummed for sealing and addressing. Along with the wedding invitation, your wedding stationery ensemble may also include a response card set, reception card, map or direction card and accommodation card. The respond card is traditionally used for gathering totals for the caterer and getting a general number of guests attending. The recipient is asked to mail back the respond card or folder roughly two weeks before the wedding or by the date indicated. Check with your caterer or banquet hall to verify the date they will need your final totals. You will want to allow enough time from the date given on your respond card to the date your caterer will need your final totals so you have time to contact any guests that you have not received a respond card from. There is always a few that "get lost in the mail." The reception card simply lists the addresses and times of any post-wedding events, such as a cocktail hour, dinner or dance. Map or direction cards provide details about the location of the wedding ceremony and reception. The accommodation information gives helpful tips about airfare, transportation or hotel arrangements for out-of-town guests. Local attractions may be featured as well. Oftentimes the accommodation information is sent in advance and can be included with the save the date cards. A save the date card can be mailed up to one year before the wedding date. Save the dates simply announce that the wedding date has been set and encourages recipients to plan for the event. It is not used as a substitute for the wedding invitation and typically mentions that an invitation will follow. Save the dates are an excellent idea for couples planning a destination wedding, wedding on a busy holiday weekend or have a large number of out of town guests. |
