Engraved Invitations:
Text is raised.
The stationer creates a copper metal plate for each piece of your wedding
ensemble. The press is setup with your printing plate. Your invitation
stock is ran through the press, using the copper printing plate to "press"
your verse into your invitation, causing the letters to be raised on the paper.
Due to the time and labor involved with the engraving process, engraving
is the most expensive and time consuming printing method. Engraved
invitations are very formal and elegant. If you choose to have your
invitations engraved, plan ahead a bit - order at least six weeks before
the date you want to send out your invitations to give
your printers more than enough time to create your plates and print your
wedding invitations.
Once your plates are created they are yours. Many stationers will either
send your plates to you with your order (makes a great keepsake) or keep
them on file for sometime - just incase you needed to reorder additional
stock.
